Meet the 4-Year-Old Girl Who Has Read Over 1,000 Books!

Last month Carla Hayden, the first African American woman to be appointed as Librarian of Congress, hosted a young girl named Daliyah Marie Arana, at the Library of Congress. Daliyah is 4 years old and has accomplished something most people don't do in an entire lifetime. The little girl has read over 1,000 books!

That's right, ever since she was an infant, she has been learning to read, by listening to her mother and older brothers practice reading books.

“She wanted to take over and do the reading on her own,” her mother, Haleema Arana,  The Washington Post in an interview. “It kind of took off from there. The more words she learned, the more she wanted to read.”

According to her mother, Daliyah has been reading books on her own since she was almost 3 years old. And now at just 4-years-old, her mom has her reading a college-level text! It's a speech called “The Pleasure of Books” by William L Phelps. Her mom posted the following video of Daliyah reading it on YouTube, to inspire other parents to encourage their kids to read at an early age:
