Patrick Star is the lovable best friend of Spongebob from the popular TV show, Spongebob Squarepants. This show has been around since 1999 and is still popular today among many families. Though Patrick isn’t always considered the most intelligent character, sometimes his quotes and experiences are relatable and humorous when comparing it to our insane lives as teachers!

1. When it's the first day of school and you're still learning everyone’s names.

Do you remember the first day of school? It can get so exhausting and overwhelming! There is a crowd of eyes watching your every move.

2. When you are writing on the board and your principal walks in for an unannounced evaluation.

This always happens to me. I am attempting to achieve the perfect balance of class management, behaviors, learning styles, and creative lesson plans… and then - BOOM - I get distracted by school leadership showing up for an evaluation!

3. How your students look when they're running in the hallway.

My classroom is right outside of the cafeteria. I am pretty sure this is a constancy I cannot avoid.

4. When it's the first day of a new project and you try to be encouraging.

Affirmation and encouragement is vital for a positive relationship with students. Sometimes the encouragement is actually translated into “good luck with figuring this one out since you weren’t paying attention when I was giving directions!”.

5. When you are devising the perfect seating chart.

Right when the students think they can goof off or get away with breaking rules is when I make this face and devise the perfect seating arrangement. No matter what, I will find a way to make it work!

6. When you have five minutes left to eat lunch.

By the time you get out of the classroom and go to the bathroom, there is a mere five minutes left to eat lunch. Turn on suction mode and try to shove it all in before the bell rings!

7. When you're telling stories to get their attention.

Maybe this is just me, but when I try to share stories to get their attention, it doesn’t always go as planned.

8. When your lesson plan isn’t going well...

Do you all have at least one student who is like Squidward?

9. That one teacher that makes the staff meeting last longer.

Every meeting. Every time. A question that could have been an email is answered in twenty minutes at the end of a staff meeting.

Do students even realize how snarky of an attitude we need to have as teachers? That is what keeps us going!

12. When you have computer problems while you are trying to enter in grades.

I feel this way every time our school website or grading program stops working. This is also an accurate portrayal of how some of our schools’ technology is not up to par yet.

13. When students call you the wrong name.

This is why students have always called me “Miss Corrie” or “Miss C”. My last name is way too long for them.

At least we try, right?

19. When vacation finally arrives.

Maybe add “drink a glass of wine”?

We try so hard, don’t we? There’s always next year!

Teacher’s lounge is a dangerous place full of random cake and leftover condiments.
