If you don't follow the NBA or just haven't heard the news, star basketball player LeBron James just signed a 4-year contract with the LA Lakers, leaving his hometown team in Ohio, the Cleveland Cavaliers.

However, before he leaves, he continues to support his mission to improve reading and graduation rates for inner-city kids in Akron, Ohio. Right after the NBA finals, LeBron broke ground on $880,000 worth of renovations to open his "I Promise" school in Akron, Ohio. But a total of $2 million has been donated to get the school up and running for the first year, provided by the LeBron James Family Foundation and corporate sponsors.

According to BET, James has already hired 34 staff members and 12 teachers. The school is set to open its doors on July 30th to 360 third and fourth grade students. Eventually, the school plans to have grades 1-8. According to Cleveland.com, the school will also host a GED and reading program for local adults.

If only more professional athletes would follow in James' footsteps! What are your thoughts? Let us know!
