However, before he leaves, he continues to support his mission to improve reading and graduation rates for inner-city kids in Akron, Ohio. Right after the NBA finals, LeBron broke ground on $880,000 worth of renovations to open his "I Promise" school in Akron, Ohio. But a total of $2 million has been donated to get the school up and running for the first year, provided by the LeBron James Family Foundation and corporate sponsors.
Kids deserve EVERY opportunity to be the best they can possibly be in life. Forget the basketball. What @KingJames is doing by opening his very own elementary school deserves all the respect you can give the man. 👊🏿 https://t.co/hk3yz67lnw— Louis Riddick (@LRiddickESPN) June 30, 2018
According to BET, James has already hired 34 staff members and 12 teachers. The school is set to open its doors on July 30th to 360 third and fourth grade students. Eventually, the school plans to have grades 1-8. According to Cleveland.com, the school will also host a GED and reading program for local adults.
