DeVos Visits Parkland School and Here's What the Students Have to Say About It

United States Secretary of Education, Betsy DeVos paid a visit today to Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, where an ex-student killed 17 students and teachers, less than a month ago. As students returned to school for the first time today, the controversial U.S. Secretary of Education was said to have simply walked around the school for an hour petting comfort dogs, shaking hands, and avoiding any serious questions from students and faculty, about what changes will be made to make sure this never happens again. Student journalists from the school said they followed her around the school and don't understand why she came.
Here's what others are saying about her "stunt" of a visit, on Twitter."It was a publicity stunt, really. There was no point to it,” Alyson Sheehy, an 18-year-old yearbook editor told the press. “I kind of expected that to happen, but it’s still frustrating that she made the trip out here and made it a big deal but didn’t do anything.”

Betsy Devos came to my school, talked to three people, and pet a dog. This is incase the press tries to say something else later

I’ve noticed many people are concerned about the dog. As am I. From what I could tell the dog was physically okay. Mentally however, I couldn’t tell

I thought she would at least give us her "thoughts and prayers," but she refused to even meet/speak with students. I don't understand the point of her being here

I've decided that I don't think we should walk out, ignore her, or block her from entering. I want to talk to her. I want her to understand what we're feeling. However, I doubt we'll be able to discuss anything with her. She'll probably give us her sympathies and leave

So proud of Betsy DeVos who entered one of the most dangerous places in America today, a high school. Next time, I hope she will be brave enough to stay for a fourth minute. #ProfilesInCourage
